Farmers' union in Punjab and Haryana have given a call for 'Bharat Bandh' today (Friday), to protest against the Centre's new agriculture reform laws. As many as 31 farmer organisations have joined hands for the 'Punjab Bandh'. Several organisations in Haryana, including the Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU), said they had extended support to the nationwide strike called by some farmers' bodies against the bills. In the nationwide protest has been called by the All India Kisan Sangharsh Coordination Committee (AIKSCC), All India Kisan Mahasangh (AIKM) and Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU), several highways and railway tracks are expected to be blocked across the country. 


Some 18 Opposition parties, including Congress, Samajwadi Party, Bahujan Samaj Party, Left, Trinamool Congress, DMK and TRS, are extending support to the bandh. The 10 central trade unions such as CITU, AITUC and Hind Mazdoor Sabha are also expected to show solidarity with the farmers.

Meanwhile, Delhi is likely to be encircled as protests have been called in neighbouring Haryana and Uttar Pradesh, and supporters from the capital planning to block the borders.
